Words don't just come along with their definitions. They come along with connotations too.
These connotations can either be negative or positive - or even neutral.
Delusion is a word with negative connotation.
Why do parents reprimand children when they use an abusive word? Not because of the words definition. But because of the negative connotations associated with the word.
Terms like "In my opinion" neutralize the connotations - even though they might not add to the meaning of the sentence.
