TW,
As interesting as that sounds, there are multiple problems that make this a working harder, rather than smarter project.
- Private Property. Before placing ones' promotional on someone elses property you'd better get their permission. This type of marketing is unethical and right up there with putting non related stuff on phone booths, gas station pumps, vending machines & newspaper machines. It will get removed quicker than you think. Especially if the Red Box is sitting inside a grocery store as they are here.
- No specific target audience other than random video buyers. Being that the buyer is coming to get a movie, they are not interested in looking at an ad.
- Not a joint venture. Trying to piggy back without the owner of the machine being notified.
- Could be violating vending machine license laws. By attaching a sales piece to a vending machine, to extract monies from buyers could net one a ticket from the state. Here in Florida, we have vending machine licenses and that information must be attached to the machine. Anything sold from a vending machine is taxable. You also put the owner of the machine in a position of trying to defend themselves stating they knew nothing about your promotional.
It's not worth the risk, possible violation of the law, and getting the owner of the machine wanting to sue you for vandalizing their machines.
I have many friends that are in the vending machine business. Their number 1 complaint, is people putting their material on their machines, trying to capitalize on their efforts. Every one of my friends will tear off the material and contact the state of Florida and turn that person or company in. They also notify the store locations that if they see anyone putting stickers, magnets, flyers & etc... on their machines to notify them immediately.
