Hi Marty,
My understanding is, if your videos on YouTube are popular enough, then Google (which owns YouTube) will "cut you a deal." Essentially, you'll earn about 50% of what Google gets in revenue from advertising associated with your videos.

Although Natalie Tran (the #10 biggest earner from YouTube) wouldn't divulge exactly what she's making, in a recent article she did admit that the estimate which was made (i.e. $101,000 in the last year) was a close estimate...
