Any links to this classic?...
I was telling someone about the classic direct mailer of the ad rpinted on newsprint, then torn edges, then post-it note on it saying, "You need to check this out! -- J"
I thought surely I could find many articles about it -- but I couldn't.
Anyone know of any links to articles about this technique?
I believe it might have been somehow banned at some point, as being deceptive.(?)
Anyhow, I believe it was in the mainstream news for some reason, at some point.
Someone came up with it (genius!), then it was copied all over, as I recall.

PS: back of article was some generic stock numbers page with easy-to-ignore, mind-numbing small print. Whole effect was a "friend" tore this "advertorial" out of a newspaper and sent it (ONLY, no letter, etc.) urging recipient to "check it out." The recipient would then mentally fill in the mysterious "--J" with some REAL friend/colleague who "must be" the one who sent it.
