I have a neighbor with a garden on her roof.

A client in Sweden has grass on her roof. She lets Goats jump up there
to eat the grass so she does not have to mow it.

NOT saying you have to do this yourself.

But there are Companies in most cities now - that can QUOTE you
statistics and come out and Do the Math on How much You will save
on AC and electric bills if you Replace a built up Roof. (That soaks up sun like a sponge.)

With a Green Garden roof Instead.

Worth Checking out.

Plus The Vegetables are a big benefit too.
