Good find. Excellent idea, thanks for sharing.
Some things come to mind:
- Experiences of any kind seems to becoming more popular, especially among millennials
- Selling escapist experiences might be especially hot when there is a dissatisfied element of the population
- My opinion: As we move forward into the future, more and more people will need these sorts of escapist experiences to stay sane
Tangent
Something tangential to this are "rage rooms", where people pay to destroy a room filled with junk and scrap.
It's value-adding on trash!
- Get some junk and garbage
- Set it up in a location with proper safety precautions
- Charge people to destroy the junk and garbage
- PROFIT!

Another tangent
Put these ideas into place in a higher gear by doing what GJA has mentioned before:
- Create a standard for escapist experiences
- Create a certification process and requirement
- Charge for the training, certification and/or franchise of your escapist experiences
- Charge for the continued renewal of certification and/or training AND collect royalties via licensing/franchise or otherwise
- PROFIT!
Yet another tangent
Licensing PLUS escapist experiences... acquire evergreen IP to make your room unique.
For example, GJA's idea of "Escape from Trump" could be (and likely should be) an officially licensed experience. Trump might even promote it on Twitter. (he's clever like that)
For example:
- Escape from the Death star (star wars)
- Escape from Darth Vader (star wars)
- Back from the Future (back to the future)
- Escape from Baradur (lord of the rings)
- Evade Voldemort (harry potter)
- Bust the Ghosts (ghostbusters)
