My understanding is;
A "hit" is when something on a page is activated. For example: If a page has 7 jpgs (photos) a JavaScript and a "WAV" (music) file...then NINE "hits" will be recorded.
Whereas when one person clicks onto a web page, that is considered a "Page View" or also known as a "Unique Visitor".
Thus...if your counter is counting "hits"...you will DEFINITELY have lots more "hits" than Page Views.
