Hi Everyone and lot of good points here. I think the best way is to move forward on your ideas while studying all you can. That way when "opportunities" (problems) come along you already have more ways to tackle them. Just studying gets you nowhere. Just moving ahead is better than nothing. Also people tend not to use the knowledge they've already gained from whatever their life experience has been up to that point.
