I think there's plenty you can do if you're handy with tools.... Unfortunately, I'm not much of a handyman myself. But I know of others who create stunning hand-made, natural-looking pieces of furrniture (coffee tables, for example) from dead pieces of wood they just find lying around.... Brances that have fallen off of trees, for example.

For some who are good with their hands, it can also be an enjoyable way to spend their retirement.... Creating beautiful hand-made objects and selling them.... :)
