Hi Taylor,

Here’s something that I tested. I have basically “Tried on” different attitudes for size. Whenever I didn’t like how I was feeling, or just wanted a change, I would do the following.

1) MOVE: Crank up the music and go jogging (This changed my state)
2) MENTALLY: I’d ask “What do I really want to be feeling most right now?”
3) MODEL: I usually pick a character from my favorite movie. I personally choose “NEO” from the movie the MATRIX
“How would NEO act in this situation?”
4) ACT AS IF: I would exercise my power of CHOICE and CHOOSE to act this way for a given period of time
5) I’d get some new perspectives and outlooks from doing this.

Like wearing different kinds of clothing, I have experienced many different emotions and attitudes. It actually can be fun. Especially if you want to change your attitude quickly.

Oh yeah I usually pay more attention to the types of food I eat as well.

A few years back, I was heavily into NLP. I mean swish patterns/ sub modalities/ Rapport/ modeling/Embedded commands etc. etc.

I basically needed to make a couple of changes myself, in different areas. I have used some of the concepts in a variety of situations especially when it comes to modeling. I have used modeling to gain more popularity at school, win at sports games, and be better at public speaking.

Taylor, you have chosen the NLP technique that I like the best, MODELING. I found that my personal CHANGE worked the best whenever I just ACTED as IF I already had the behavior of excellence I wanted. This wasn’t easy at first mind you. It actually felt really weird for a while as I tried on the new behavior for size. However once I persisted, I got accustomed to the new behavior.

The process I went through was basically this.

1) I was dissatisfied with my current situations
2) I decided that I wanted to change my behaviors to get very specific results
3) I found a Model of the behavior that I wanted for me
4) I began to ACT like my model in the SPECIFIC area of my choice
5) Got the Evidence/Results

Personal Examples:

Problem:

In high school I really wanted to change my image. According to my friends I was very quiet, smart, businesslike (proper) yet sweet person. Heck in their eyes I could do NO wrong. “Duane would never do that” they’d say. The look of horror on their face when they first heard me curse at a track and field meet was classic. The image was a positive one, however I wanted to STOP being treated like the EXCEPTION.

Models:

I found people that were “popular” in school and “funny” and modeled some of their attitudes IN MY STYLE. (Funny man Eddie Murphy was one of my models…less the excessive swearing.)

Results:
- Girls started to open up to me and share some really intimate details. Hey this was new.
- Friends started to laugh more and say things like “Duane you’re such a joker! You’re sooh Funny!” This took a while to get used to.
- Hey I won our school elections. By a HUGE Margin
- I was very shortly the most POPULAR person in the school.
- My marks began to slip…not to far though!

Sports Competition:

Problem:

- I could never beat this one friend at table tennis. He always beat me with his backhand smash. I too had a strong back hand smash, however the ball would fly off the table TOO often and there wasn’t as much power behind it as his.

Model:

My model was my same friend :->
I asked HIM if he noticed any difference between my backhand and his.

He DID

He happily told that my backhand swing arc was TOO WIDE. I should narrow the ARC so my paddle was closer to the table. He also told me to put my entire body into the swing as opposed to just my arm strength!

Results:

I beat him for the FIRST time ever the VERY NEXT GAME! AND THE NEXT! The look of SHOCK on his face was priceless!

Whoa! This post is becoming quite the book.

Conclusions:

“People are so focused on mastering the weapons they are not paying attention to the target. Remember the target dictates the weapon, the weapon dictates movements.”

Taylor I’m not sure about your target i.e. (What attitude you do want), however there are other weapons/technologies/methods/processes that might be simpler than NLP to help you get to your target.

Take care Taylor!
