Default Selling "Afro american" Art-----

I remember talking to a guy in Seattle a few
years ago. He owned an art gallery that specialized
in "afro american art". The black population of
Seattle is only about 15% of the total pop.
He said he couldn't make a very good living
from his gallery alone. Most of his artist's
works were sold through direct mail. He said he
had a very good national, afro- american mailing list.

I remember hearing somewhere that afro-americans
are very responsive to direct mail.Right up there
with conservative christians.

Not too long ago a local black female painter
had about a month of great exposure at a local
Starbucks. She exhibited about 6 paintings at
a time. The prices on them ranged from $500- $800.

The owner of Starbucks is an art collector.
I've seen local banks display local artist's
stuff also.
I think if you are good and local, then it is
easy to find local businesses willing to let
you display your work -- just for the exposure.

Best, Phil
