Hi Boyd,
Thanks, interesting topic!
I was watching a documentary a few days ago, about "classic" race cars, and those who buy them.... People can pay millions of dollars for some of these truly rare, classic race cars!
What was amazing to me about that program was when they spoke to many of the people who owned these cars.... These cars were a real passion to them. But one thing was no different from anyone else.... They were COLLECTORS! They spoke about their cars the same way a stamp collector would talk about his stamps, or a coin collector might talk about his coins....
I think most of us are collectors of SOMETHING or other. Like many passionate collectors, they'll pay a LOT to add a rare item (in this case, a "classic" race car) to their collection!
I guess the other thing is exclusivity - people like to have something that others don't have.... Maybe that's why a person would buy a $10,000 grill. They buy it partly BECAUSE it's $10,000, and they can afford it (while others can't). They can show it off to their friends!
I'm curious to know what features a $10,000 grill has!
