Default How to be more productive online...

Websites and social media nowadays are designed to be addictive... They want you to keep scrolling and scrolling, which is fascinating - but not very productive!

You may not spend a lot of money - but they want you to spend all your time...!

I'm looking at you Facebook, Reddit, Twitter, and even various news websites...

It's a big waste of time (in general), and harmful to your success!

Anyway, to combat this, I've just (as a test) installed something called "Whitelist Manager" on the Chrome browser - it blocks every website except those you specifically include.

It's designed more to restrict websites that kids may access - but I'm trying to use it for productivity. So far, I'm only allowing a few sites like Wikipedia, Simplenote (which I often use for making notes), Gmail, Wrike (using it for project management - it's free!), Google Docs, Google Sheets, and Sowpub ... We'll see how it works!

I can easily disable it when I want to go back to "normal" mode... But when I want to be productive, I think I'll have it enabled...

I can also easily add or delete websites which are allowed as time goes by...

It's not "foolproof" but I don't need it to be - I just want there to be a little bit of an extra "barrier" to get to these addictive, yet not productive, websites...!

They specifically design these websites to be addictive... It's kind of insidious...

Please let me know if you've tried something like this, or if you think it's a good idea...

Best wishes,

Dien

P.S. I think the fact I wrote this post (instead of scrolling through Facebook or Twitter) shows it's working...

P.P.S. Here's a link to Whitelist Manager - https://chrome.google.com/webstore/d...klknmjhokobgmh
I am still looking for something similar which works with the new fast Firefox Quantum browser...
