Hi Phil,

I read through the "Scamworld" article, and also the "reply" to it by Danny Sullivan...

My thoughts are...

Are there scammers out there online? Yes...

Are all online marketers scammers? Of course, the answer is no...

(I note that one of the biggest and most successful online marketers is Amazon.com. Their whole original business is based on "info marketing" - since books and ebooks are a form of information. If you take the argument of the article and follow it to its logical conclusion, then Amazon.com must be one of the biggest scammers of them all.)

Actually, much of online marketing is not all that different from mail-order marketing, as it's been done for probably over 100 years... It's just a new medium, which is also more efficient.

For example, he says...

"In Internet Marketing, there are a few terms you have to know before you get started: leads, lead generation, and product launches."

These are not "new scammy" internet marketing terms, they're all quite old marketing terms, which I'm sure have been used for over 50 years.

I see all marketing as a kind of "tool" - which can be used for "good" or "evil". Just like any other tool. For example, you can take a hammer, wood, and nails, and use them to build a dungeon to kidnap people in... or you can use the same tools to build a house to shelter a family. Because you can do both, it does not make a hammer, wood, and nails intrinsically "evil" or "good" - it all depends on how you use it...

Marketing is a tool - and it can be used in an ethical way, or an unethical way. (I personally believe in something like the "law of karma" ... if you do bad things, it will return to you in one form or another... So it's better not to do the bad things!)

Best wishes,

Dien
