Default Great female entrepreneurs....?

Who are some great female entrepreneurs?

I can think of Estee Lauder and Anita Roddick (founder of "The Body Shop") off-hand.... Who are some other great female entrepreneurs, and what did they do?

I know there are plenty of great female entrepreneurs, and I'm mainly asking to help round out my knowledge.... Thanks for any help....

The only one I can think of is Mary Kay Ash,
founder of Mary Kay Cosmetics. Oh, and Helen
Gurly Brown of Cosmo fame.

How about Debbi Fields (Mrs. Field's Cookies)? She founded the company and there are thousands of franchie locations now. Just do a search of her name or the co. name on any search engine for more info.

One of my long time favorite female entrepreneurs is Dottie Walters.

Without a vehicle, she started a tiny advertising business on foot - pushing her two babies along in a stroller in a rural community - in order to achieve her goal of selling advertising. From this productive endeavor, she ultimately built a small advertising empire.

Dottie began speaking to spread the message of her success and then went on to become a founding member of National Speakers Association. She discovered a wonderful niche market as she catered to speakers with the publication of "Sharing Ideas"...a popular newsletter for budding and already successful speakers. She also created a first class speaker's bureau.

One of the many things that I admire about Dottie is her encouragement of women to consider going into sales. Her audio tape, produced over twenty years ago, as I recall, "Selling Power Of A Woman" effectively delivered a rather life-changing message to many women who were otherwise stuck in dead-end, low paying jobs.

The story of her success in selling was highly inspirational to many as she relayed the story of her own success in advertising sales...and spread her 'can do' message with a zeal that was unprecedented.

She has also hosted a radio program for National Business Radio and has been a popular platform speaker all over the world...especially with her Speak and Grow Rich seminars.

Not only that, but when I spoke with her on the telephone,as I did some years back, she has the remarkable ability to make you feel like the most special person in the world.

Many of you have probably heard that old saying... that people may soon forget what you say or do, but they never forget how you make them feel.

After speaking with Dottie personally, I could especially understand how she came to be so successful. She is truly a great influence on all who are fortunate enough to cross her path.

Default Thanks! And here's another one....

Thanks for all the replies! I'm planning to "round out" my reading by reading more about female entrepreneurs.... (I've read a lot about various male entrepreneurs, but I want to read about more female entrepreneurs to round out my education....)

Here's another one too which came to my mind.... Martha Stewart. It sounds like she got her start with info-products! Forbes magazine says about her

"Domestic doyenne launched lifestyle empire with how-to guides in 1980s, now stretches across print, broadcast, Web and retail."

Thanks everyone. :)
