WHAT IS IT ?
A double sided discount card 4x5 in size that offers free and discounted automobile services, such as a free oil change, a free battery charge, 50% off an inspection and so on. HOW IT WORKS ? Contact in person a local neighborhood auto repair service station and offer the owner to help them increase their business at no cost to them. Get the service station owner to agree to honor 20 specific free or discounted services. You only need one auto repair service station to agree to work with you and your in business. WHY IT WORKS ? In order for the consumers to take advantage of all the free or discounted services, they have to visit the service station many times and this gives the service the ability to build a relationship with the consumers and keep a good percentage of them as life long customers even after they have used up all of the free or discounted services on their auto discount card. HOW TO MAKE THEM ? Using a computer with a basic desktop publishing program such as Print Shop, just copy the design of the example auto discount card shown on my blog at: http://www.TheCashRoom.blogspot.com or create your own design and then using color card stock print the auto discount cards 4 to a page, then cut them out using a paper cutter. If you don't want to design and print out your own auto discount cards just make a mock-up design of how you want your discount to look or use the example shown on my blog and take it to a local printer and have them design it, print it and cut them out for you. HOW TO SELL THEM ? There are a number of ways to sell the auto discount cards. Here are 2 suggested ways to sell them. OPTION 1: Sell them door to door yourself or hire sales people on a commission basis. Here is an example script to use: How are you today? I'm (your name) from (service station name your working with) Do you or a member of your family own a vehicle? (this question will almost guarantee the desired yes answer) Great! (hand them the auto discount card to look at) As you can see there is a free (pick any free service and explain it) all together there are 20 free or discounted vehicle services a total of ( figure out the total amount of savings the auto discount card your selling has and tell the customer this amount) , but today If your interested I can sell it to you for just $10. Would you like to buy one now? OPTION 2: Work with a nonprofit organization, church, youth group, etc. that needs to raise funds. Offer to let them sell the auto discount cards at say $20 to consumers and for each auto discount card the sell the get to keep $10. You will need to up a contract outlining all of the details of your agreement. This protects both you and the group your working with should any misunderstanding occur. PROFIT POTENTIAL: 500 auto discount cards sold at $10 each by yourself grosses $5,000 less estimated expenses of $200 for printing and gas, etc. leaves a net profit of $4,800. 500 auto discount cards sold sold at $10 by a sales person or group grosses $5,000 less 50% or $2,500 is paid to the sales person or group, plus minus $100 for printing leaves a net profit of $2,400 for you. Good Luck! Marty |

Along the same lines...I put together a "CAR CARE CARD"...that offered "Eight (8) FREE Oil Changes at 3 Auto Repair Shops"!
A $250 Value which we sold to consumers for $59.95. Why would auto repair shops want to offer FREE Oil Changes? 1) To get new customers 2) They can ALWAYS find something else that needs fixing Why would consumers be willing to pay $59.95 for this Card? Because they can get EIGHT FREE Oil Changes worth at least $200! Plus...sometimes we included a local Scout Troop or Band or Choir or other group. We tried this with ONE Auto Repair Shop but he got so much business he was swamped. Here's what our Car Care Card looked like... http://www.midasreports.com/CarCareCards/ Don Alm |

...in the "spirit of creativity"...here's an example of how....if you just use your brain....looking at something that has ALREADY been proven and wondering and asking yourself,
"Hey! Can this existing PROVEN money-making idea be improved upon?" Case in Point; Some years ago a local high school band needed some new band uniforms. Since the school had no money to buy new uniforms....I was asked (by one of the fathers) if I had some idea on HOW they could raise the money for their uniforms. Well...I did some checking and found that MANY groups had used "Fund Raising CARDS" to get the necessary funds for their "charity". This has been done for years. The way it works is; someone visits local restaurants and businesses and gets them to offer a Special Discount to anyone who shows the Discount Card. Then...when 15 or 20 offers are gotten...the Plastic FundRaising Cards are ordered and when received....the kids go out and solicit their parents and anyone who will pay, usually, ten bux, for a Card that will give them a discount on their purchase at the participating businesses. So...for example: The one I was involved with...we had 20 businesses participating with Special Offers. I ordered the plastic Cards from a co that provides these Cards for FundRaisers....had a meeting with the kids in the band....gave them some ideas on HOW to "Sell the Cards for $10 each". The "deal" is usually...the person who; 1) Gets the Businesses and 2) Orders the Cards ...is the one who is entitled to SPLIT the 10bux with the group. Well...since I was a buddy of a dad...I got the sponsors AND...designed and ordered the Cards (the dads paid for the cost of the Cards)...instead of the band getting $5 on each $10 sale...they got $9. So...on the order of 1,000 Cards...the band collected $9,000...which was enough for their new uniforms and a couple of GOOD Parties. Well...watching how this went about...I thought; Why can't I get businesses to offer Special Deals and...instead of selling the Cards to consumers...why don't I sell the Cards....myself...to employers to give to their employees as an "Extra Perk" from the Company or Business Owners? Well....it worked I got the Sponsors....and because it was FREE to them...I was able to enlist 20 participating businesses (Hey! It wouldn't cost them a nickle unless someone appeared with the Card) I was then able to sell the Cards for $10 to $20 each...to business owners...to give to their employees as a "Perk". Don Alm |

I'm curious.
What was the Offer/s on the Card and How Much did you pay for it? And....was it a Plastic "Credit Card" type or a Laminated "Business Card" type? Thanks, Don Alm |

Hi Don, I'm don't want to answer for Linda, but If the following will help..... My card is a credit card type and has most of the fast food places plus Oil changes, Golf courses, Bowling Center, Fun City, Slip and Slide. So I would say entertainment and food mostly. Hope this helps. Best of success, Skip Rosell

Hi Don,
Thanks for that information on discount cards. Every year I buy one of these cards from my local Elks Club. I think of it more as a donation because I usually forget to use the card at the businesses listed. The one time I always use it is at the Dunken Donuts. Love my coffee. ![]() Best of success, Skip Rosell

My thoughts are you can front load this card with thousands of discounts but if it's off the beaten path for me then i'll likely pass.
So is anyone niching these cards so that say all the discounts are for stores and places along Main St, USA. because you know everyone goes there or for a particular radius around a neighborhood so it's likely i'll travel these routes. If i see something like this I'll get more interested and plus maybe (hint) pay even more. Also about the forget to use part maybe add in incentive so that if you actually use the card the charity org will get an extra donation once the card is used at the establishment. Win -Win - Win |

Do you know someone who has actually sold these Cards the way you suggest....or is this a program you "think" will sell?
Thanks, Don Alm |

Don,
I have worked with a few different auto repair shops in Rochester, NY to sell auto discount cards just as I have described in my report. I have made good money selling auto discount cards by myself, selling them door to door. If I didn't think my idea would work, I wouldn't have posted it, so I know it works, but it's not a business for those who can't take rejection or deal with the general public. It does take work and it's not a get rich quick idea, but it sure beats working for someone else. Marty |
