I don't mean to "rain on your parade" but I think it may be hard to sell things to people who just got laid off of work, because they're figuring how to make ends meet. Unless you're selling them a new job. Is that what your idea was? However, the novelty toilet paper sounds like an interesting product. I bet some people would love to get a monthly newsletter on new, wacky novelty products. (I know I would!) It could be modeled on the "What's New" section of "Popular Science" magazine, but be about all the wacky stuff out there, as opposed to the high-tech stuff "Popular Science" writes about. Your back end would be that they could order the products directly from you. I personally think this could be a winning model.... If it was a print newsletter, I would charge a subscription to cover my costs (and maybe make some profit on that too). I think people who like novelty products must constitute a niche market, so if you focus on building a list and selling your customers what they want, you could do well. :) The way I see it, you could profit 3 ways:
