What do you do for health insurance?
I was just wondering what you do for health insurance if you have your own home based business? Have you found an affordable company?

Re: What do you do for health insurance?
Personally, I just pay it myself.. I wouldn't go so far as to say affordable though.. I'll be interested to follow this thread as other discuss it. Please no personal e-mails about it though.. thanks :-)

Get a Job at Progressive!
If you work at Progressive Insurance Co. part time, 20 hours a week you can get full benefits including eyes and dental..It's a good deal and you can work your home business the other half of the time when you're not working there.

Re: What do you do for health insurance?
The best option is to go in with some sort of group. For artists, there are a number of organizations and guilds that contract with health insurance providers. It's not as cheap as using one provided by a regular employer, but it's a darn sight better than NO insurance!

NASE
I joined NASE - National Association of Self Employed. They have a piece meal plan that is not as good as what you will find from most employers (if anyone finds one that is, let me know :) ), but it is semi-reasonable.
Also, in a recent newsletter, Angela Adair-Hoy (www.writersweekly.com) explained what she ended up doing for her family. They bought insurance to cover catastrophic illnesses and set up a money market account to cover everyday medical expenses. In the beginning, they deposit the amount one of those pricey policies would have cost them each month. She said once it gets to a certain level, they will keep that amount as their medical reserve. To me, it sounds like a smart way to stay covered without paying outrageous premiums. Bobette Kyle Author, "How Much for Just the Spider?
