Default A surprising home-based business

I try to keep my finger on the pulse of what's happening in small business...

And this is an unusual one that caught my attention!

This is the first one I've come across which is a home-based float therapy business! (This one is in Minnesota.)

Float therapy is where you have a special "float pod" which holds 180 gallons (681 liters) of water. For comparison, a typical bath tub holds 80 gallons (302 liters), so a float pod holds more than twice as much water.

The water is full of Epsom salt, which means your body will easily float. It gives you healthier skin, hair, and nails.

Because you're floating, your body is relaxed and it eases your body... and soul!

The thing is, with this kind of business, it may cost a lot to set up, but it is cheap to run. So, once the set up costs have been spent, it's virtually pure profit. Your main running expenses are for the hot water and the Epsom salt, and also the cost of cleaning and keeping it hygienic.

This is a repeat-purchase business. If people love the experience, they'll come back over and over.

You could even sell it on a "membership"-type of basis... That's where people pay a certain amount per year, per quarter, or per month, which gets them a certain number of visits for that time period... (They would pre-book the time they would want to use it.)

Whether you get customers or not is a matter of marketing. With good marketing and by giving a great experience, you can get repeat customers!
