Default It's not that easy organizing a movie screening...

I'm organizing a commercial movie screening (with a partner)... I'm finding it's not all that easy!

However, hopefully it will be alright on the day...

We're screening an award-winning martial arts movie - "Ip Man"...

We've got the venue, organized screening rights, but yeah, lots of work doing the publicity... I'm not sure if it will all come off, but we're publicizing it through a website, Twitter, Meetup.com, a "win free tickets" competition through a specialized movie website, newspapers, flyers and (if my partner gets on) a "film buff's" radio program... oh, and also a few martial arts clubs, too! And yet, I still didn't quite get it where I wanted to...

Hopefully the next movie screening will be more smooth sailing... and we'll learn from our mistakes...

Anyone put on a commercial event for the public before?

Best wishes,

Dien

Default Good Luck ... and keep us updated

Good luck on this Dien!

I hope you will give us a marketing analysis when the dust settles. I would be curious of many things such as:

1) Was this just for fun or a potential for profit venture (or proof of concept)?
2) How did you get involved?
3) How did you set it up (planning phase) and secure the rights?
4) Why did you pick this particular movie from 2008?
5) What surprised you in this effort (good and bad)?
6) What marketing that you mentioned in this post worked well or not so well?
7) What lessons did you learn that will change how you would approach this next time?

Thanks for everything you share on this site. I'm sure others would also be interested in hearing more details when you have time.

Thanks,
Rob Yaggie
