I need help! If you have a little time to spare, it would be appreciated!!

Hi!

This time, I'm not offering my two cents on anything. I'm asking for yours... *GULP*

I've been working on a remake of my site since August 14! *lol* I know, cause I dated the folder Aug14 so I'd know how long it took me to finish working on it in bits and pieces between client orders.

Anyway.... you know how THAT goes. There is inevitably the typo here or there that you can look at a bazillion times and not see. So.. if you could be so kind as to give it a look through and tell me if you catch anything I missed, it would be really, really appreciated!

Wow....Your revamped site looks fantastic!

I can see why you are the best Web site designer around!

Here's my two cents worth on a few little things I picked up on;

1. The "Website Magic" button text looks different in color or style to the other buttons, either the text is not BOLD or it's a shade different to black. (Could be my eyes or old monitor though!)

2. "First Impressions Count! On the Internet, you don't...." ... Would look better if you started the text after the bold sub heading on a new line, to keep uniformity with the first two paragraphs as you have done.

3. "copyright © Linda Caroll.com".... Better to leave out the space between your names as per your domain name, e.g. LindaCaroll.com

You've pretty much made a textbook example of how to do a website.

I just have three suggestions:

* Make your copyright notice say Copyright © 2001 LindaCarroll.com

* Check the Titles of all your pages: some are using the URL as a title

* I hate to suggest this as it would be a ton of work, but green is the traditional color representing power and magic. Purple is the color of a visited link.

You know, I think you're right. I'll look again and see if I got the text one shade off, or maybe that happened in the compression process. I'd missed that!

Good grief!! That's exactly the kind of thing
I meant! How many times I looked at that page and somehow still missed that. It's on the
"fix" list, too.

Good point, too. I don't want people trying to type in the url with a space! It's on the fix list, too!

It does very much and thank you SO much for taking the time to look! Those were three of those things that I was looking for "other" eyes to spot! Perfection is my middle name... right after trouble. Neither rhymes for me, though... *g* If I were you, I'd start signing things as "Picky Ricky." You know, like in the old days when every trucker had a "handle." It makes people remember you. Establishing subliminal familiarity and all that good stuff.

Good point. I think I may change that on the main page. On some of the other pages, I tend to leave it without a date because some of my writing and articles have been copyright since 1997. Since I've always allowed free reprint rights on my printed materials (in exchange for a link) I like to make sure that the copyright is not "just" established from this year. But the design, being this year's design, could use a date added.

Funny.... I was wondering if anyone would ask about color. I've done some studying on how colors affect people - especially online. You might find this interesting. A lot of colors seem to generate different results online than they do offline.

For example, highlighting things in yellow is a common practice offline. Online - bad idea. The traditional shade of yellow, as displayed in the primary 16 color palette - causes retina damage if looked at too long. Of course, people don't realize that consiously. They just don't look at it too long. So, websites using a large amount of yellow have tend to result in shorter visits.
People solve the problem by "leaving" faster.

Green is another touchy color. When people view a website with a lot of green, they will make one of two assumptions. Either a) it will help them make money. Or... b) It's a money grab. The layout and text will make the difference, as well as the shade of green used. I've used green on one client's website with FANTASTIC results., and
her sales are terrific.

One of the things I do with my clients is look at the the opinion they want their customers to form of them, and then use color to help achieve that objective. For each person, the color of success will vary. For the client that I used green for, purple would have killed her sales. For me, the right color choice was a soft purple. : )

Hi, Linda - I just went back to your site to have another read thru and noticed that your navigation images weren't loading - and that you didn't have an image title there to help with getting round the site - I know you've got text links at the bottom; perhaps the others are superfluous?

What I was actually looking for was the link to your published articles - I was hoping to find a way to publish them on my site (I'm working on the design again to improve it!)

That is strange... I amnot sure why they didn't load for you - but it's a good point. I know that sometimes if I haven't cleared my cache or run a defrag for *too* long, I'll have trouble loading sites myself, and I'm on a P3 with waay more ram than a human should need... *g* The same could happen to other people, too. I will add text titles just as a backup! : )

Maybe I'm the only one in the world that sees this, or maybe someone mentioned it and I missed it. Anyway, my computer (after reboot) shows the same problem, but worse in Netscape. This is with MSIE 5.0 and Netscape 4.75, 17" monitor & 800x600 resolution. I took some screenshots so you could see what I see - the decapitated stars.
