Hi Richard,

Thanks - great find!

Your post inspired me to do some "hunting" - and thought you (and others) might like this as well...

World's stupidest inventions

(from the NY Daily News)

Here's one of them...

This "toilet mug" ain't something I feel a need for real soon...

I gotta admit, though, I love some of the wacky "stupidest inventions" - and, yeah, I would probably buy some of them too... (Guilty of bad taste, as charged!)

Best wishes!

Dien

Thanks so much, Dean. That was absolutely the best 20 minutes I've ever wasted.

Maybe Gordon will get some Fundies for use in San Diego.

No worries! (As they say downunder!)

I enjoyed your "find" too, thanks! I had never even heard of "Mars Needs Moms" - amazing for a $150 million dollar movie (that bombed)!

Best wishes,

Dien

Default Cottonelle Hired a Toilet Paper Designer - color pics

Thanks Dien, Richard,

I think I've got a sure loser in 2012.

But then I thought it was silly to buy covers for cell phones to match
my outfits. Silly me.

Toilet Paper is a 10 billion industry in the USA.

Cottonelle wanted to get a leg up on their competition.

So they hired a designer.

Have started Pre-selling Designer TP ROLL COVERS for toilet paper
at www.respecttheroll.com

If twer me.

I'd have done lots of Testing on the QT - 1st.

Glenn

Hi Glenn,

Thanks for linking to that site...

It's interesting - since when you start reading it, it's full of humorous "mock" news - all designed to promote their product...

For example, under the headline "Ice fishermen add roll covers to their must-have gear this season", it says...
The sport of ice fishing has seen many improvements this season, most prominently the inclusion of roll covers in the facilities. Mick Reynolds, superintendent out at Moon Lake, gave us the reason behind the big push to improve the bathroom amenities. "Some of these men are out here from the time the lake freezes to the time it melts. The quality of the commode matters," he said. "So we switched to Cottonelle and brought in those designer roll covers for the spares."

Fisherman John Timber is happy to see the changes. "Your toilet paper can see some hard times out there in the elements. The last thing you want is a frozen sheet."

Itís been a pretty good season for nearly everyone out on the lake, with a high count of perch, walleye and respected rolls.
If you click on "About Our Town" - you'll see it's all about a (fictional) town called "Where The Sun Don't Shine"!

I don't know how successful this promotion of theirs will be... But the website is an interesting example of (humorous) copywriting!

(From what I've read, "humorous" copywriting can be dangerous... Since you might entertain, but never get around to really "selling" the benefits of the product, or making a strong "call to action"!)

Very interesting, though... Who knows, a year from now, toilet paper covers could be the "thing to get" to keep up with the Joneses...!

Best wishes!

Dien

Thanks Phil!

More amazing ideas, as usual... Some are (cough!) not for me, but... Tissue-pack advertising does seem like a good idea! I can see why it's a big success in Japan!

Thanks for your (and Garth's) earlier posts on it here, too...

http://www.sowpub.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3573

And the Wikipedia post is good, too...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tissue-pack_marketing

I think the way to go is not to market it as toilet paper, but for use as tissues. People need tissues every now and then (e.g., when you have a runny nose, when you accidentally spill some coffee on yourself, if you get oil on your hands when checking the oil in your car and there's no clean rag handy, or if you get your hands dirty in general with no washbasin close by, etc.)

I actually carry a small tissue pack (usually has about 10 tissues) with me all the time (it's small enough to fit in my back pocket). It actually comes in pretty handy every now and then. (You can use a handkerchief, of course, but this is an alternative which is more versatile.) We also keep these small tissue packs in the car, too (because you can store them in the glove compartment, or other small storage spaces).

Now... I buy these small packs of tissues... If someone would give them to me for free, I'd take them and use them! (And of course, that also means multiple exposures to the advertising...)

Best wishes,

Dien
