![]() I just saw an interesting documentary on Richard Branson. And it reminded me why it's so important just to GET STARTED....
When Richard Branson started in business, he started something called Student magazine (aimed at students, of course). But Student magazine wasn't all that profitable.... So, they brainstormed how they could bring in a little extra money. One of their ideas was to start a side-project - a mail order record business, advertising in the pages of their own magazine. And Virgin Records was born! The amazing thing about this is that Student magazine was not very profitable.... But if Richard Branson hadn't gotten STARTED with Student magazine, he would never have started Virgin Records, which went on to make him a rich man. When you just get started, you may not end up doing what you started doing.... But by getting started, more doors will open, and more opportunities will present themselves. This is something I've been experiencing myself! Get yourself STARTED and you're sure to find the same thing if you stay in there! The more you do, the more opportunities present themselves to you.... What you started doing may not work out, but stay flexible and you'll see new opportunities, which you would never have seen if you never got started. So, in my opinion, the MOST IMPORTANT THING to do is just to GET STARTED! This is what Gordon has been teaching lately, because when you get started you begin an exciting adventure into the world of possibility.... :) Back to Richard Branson, Virgin Records started as a small mail-order business, advertising in the pages of his Student magazine. Before too long, Student magazine folded, and all that was left was Virgin Records (which was profitable). From there, Richard Branson went from opportunity to opportunity.... He opened a Virgin Records retail store. He started a recording studio. He signed up acts, and turned Virgin Records into a recording label. He bought a night club. And finally (when he really made it big), he started Virgin Airlines.... But the amazing thing is, one opportunity led to the next! I think if you keep your eyes open, you'll find new opportunities will keep coming to you as well.... :) I think it doesn't matter so much WHAT you do when you start.... It could be trading chattel, writing an ebook, selling stuff on ebay, or writing software.... As long as you get started and do something, so you can start on your own exciting journey.... :) - Dien Rice |
