One guy in Plymouth, England, was furloughed from his full-time job, and even his backup income as a DJ had disappeared too.

He had a lot of extra time on his hands.

He used the time to launch a business idea he had been thinking about for a while...

The idea?

It's a freshly-cooked, hot food delivery service...

...For breakfast and brunch only!

One offer on the menu is a "build-your-own" egg dish... It works like this.

First you choose your "base" (English muffin, sourdough bread, etc.)
then your style of egg (poached, scrambled, spicy scrambled, or fried)
then any extras (bacon, salmon, hash browns, beans, sausage),
...and finally add any additional flavors (lemon and chili, Hollandaise sauce, BBQ drizzle, etc.).

You can also get an omelette, where you get your choice of fillings - as many as you like. (Each filling you choose costs a little extra.)

Pancakes work the same way - several possible toppings, as many as you like, each topping costs a little extra...

They also deliver drinks - juices, hot chocolate, and coffee.

Delivery times (for breakfast or "brunch"), which the customer can choose, range from 8 am to 2 pm.

While he does offer a same-day service, he encourages people to order up to 30 days ahead.

When he started, at first he only offered his meals 2 days a week.

However, as it gained popularity, he now delivers his meals 5 days a week (from Wednesday to Sunday).

The minimum order is £10 British pounds (around $13 US dollars).

He adds a small delivery fee on to the bill (the further the distance for delivery, the higher the delivery fee).

He also offers catering, such as for corporate or networking events. (These kind of events often happen during breakfast or lunch time.)

Most hot food delivery services only deliver for lunch and dinner... By focusing on breakfast, he's "bypassing" most of the competition!

How to start a business like this?

In most places, you can only legally sell hot food like this if it is prepared in a commercial kitchen (due to commercial sanitation regulations).

However, many restaurants are not using their kitchen in the morning. You can ring a bunch of restaurants and negotiate to rent their commercial kitchen during the morning hours when they are not being used.

Start out with just a couple of days a week, as this guy did. This lets you test things out, and also iron out any "kinks" in your system.

Make sure to spread the word on social media, and ask your happy customers to spread the word as well!

Best wishes,

Dien Rice
