You are very correct Dien, I arrived that conclusion few days ago while reading John Caples, he talks about that: "notice the reason. That is important".

I think The Robert Collier Letter Book talks a little bit about this (first published in 1931)!
He talks about selling slightly damaged goods for a discount... The products were still good, but slightly damaged, hence the discount...
The slight damage was the reason why for giving the discount...
And even with that reason why - they sold like crazy!
