Thanks for posting about Kickstarter...
I have a friend who puts on plays (he both directs and also sometimes writes the plays). He wrote an original play, and used Kickstarter to raise the funds to (successfully) put on the play last year...
So, it can definitely work!
Another big one (this site can be used internationally) is Indiegogo http://www.indiegogo.com ...
