In the P.S. section of Glenn's post he, in part, wrote:

"Everything is based on Give to Get - Golden Rule Foundations."

I guess I got lost because my understanding of how this particular brand of advertising works is:

The, in this case, author of the book gives us a chance to vote on a title. When we do, he gets the opportunity to sell us the book. This gives him two gets. One, the opp to sell and two, the opp to make some quick cash all based on the give to get principle. All the voter really was "given" was an opportunity to spend money as it seems to shake out.

I completely understand the principle and know how it works. This is the ole subliminal technique. Make it look like they are getting something in return for their, again in this case, vote.

Where I got lost was the rebuke of those who didn't vote (I did vote btw cuz I liked the BUM title). I realize the rebuke can be part of the give and get because it may tinge the conscience of someone who thinks they should have voted. Out of what we would commonly call guilt they buy. Two objectives served. One, a sale and two an assuaged conscience.

But, to thicken the plot, I too was offered an opportunity to buy the book through an affiliate. I can't remember seeing any notice of an affiliate program being available. Unless of course this is part of a jv program and not really an affiliate program and not open to the general voting public at large.

The post didn't mention anything about this affiliate attachment. None of this is meant in anyway to impugn the book. It stands on its own. It is the marketing thereof I wish to better understand.

If anyone can remove the mist around the marketing, I would be greatly appreciative.

Other than that, I'm all for marketing anyway a person can honestly present their product. After all, we are marketers on this forum, right?

Tom
