HELP please...links in pdf created from Open Office don't work...

seems like I've done this a hundred times...but,

I've written a manual in Open Office. I exported as pdf. The links in the pdf file don't work. Anyone?

Any cures? I even put the pdf file in Adobe Acrobat (6.0) and created the links there, but, still no go.

Without working links in the pdf file, well, it isn't worth doing a pdf.

Hi Gordon,

Hope all is well. Did you select the THE "TAGGED PDF" OPTION to make the links convert to links in the PDF document?

You can check out this link for a blow by blow walk through. It has an Image also.

Exporting to PDF

The final step, once you do all this in OpenOffice.org, is to export to PDF.

Choose File > Export to PDF. Name the file. In the PDF options window, specify a page range if you want, and make any changes to the graphics quality. (If you can, keep the JPG compression as high as possible.) Then click Export.

Here's the PDF Options window.Click it to see a larger version if you want. BE SURE TO SELECT THE "TAGGED PDF" OPTION to make the links convert to links in the PDF document.

Hope that helps

Duane

I've got the same problem, so I went back and did exactly as you said here plus read that blog page for the umpteenth time. Still can't make it work. In mine it seems to be a Firefox problem. Here's the error message I'm getting:
Quote:

Failed to execute child process "/usr/lib/firefox-3.5/firefox" (Permission denied)

I dug through the settings in Firefox but didn't have any luck finding a solution.

Have you got any other suggestions?
Thanks.

Hi Bozo,

Thanks for asking. Not sure about that specific Firefox error message.

If you haven't already perhaps cut and pasting it into google may produce a solution.

That being said, in regard to links in pdf issue...Somebody on The Warrior Forum had also had this issue. He eventually got his resolved.

There are also other people providing their suggestions and workarounds.

Check this link to see how he resolved this issue.

Thanks, Duane. It is now working on a Vista machine with IE, but not on an Ubuntu machine with Firefox. Maybe a good whine will help, I'll try that.

Woohoo! It works

It was a local problem with my machine. I was using the Ubuntu default pdf reader, and now I have the real Adobe Reader.

Links work! Yea!

Thanks Duane, you helped push me to find the problem.
