Making money from body parts! (of mannequins, that is)

I just got back from an interstate trip to visit family (hence the delay in my posts)...

The following woman makes money (with revenues of up to $800,000 a year in a one-person business), selling and renting mannequins and mannequin parts!

She really wants to hit a revenue of $1,000,000 (one million bucks) a year. One thing she finds hard is getting the mindset, the confidence.

She says, "When you walk into a place feeling powerful, people treat you differently than when you sort of slink in."

(Wow, there's a lesson there for almost everyone!)

How does a one-woman business bring in up to $800,000 in revenues a year? You can find out in the article below... (Click on the New York Times link that appear when you click on the Google search link below...)

Dien, thanks for posting. I'm coming back later to read this.

But it just seems to me ...

It could cost "an arm and a leg" to get into this business. :) :)

Heheh... That could be true! :)

And you also have to be careful when dealing mannequins - as many people can lose their heads! ;)

Best wishes!

Thanks, Phil, for sharing that!

I found this part interesting...

"When starting her business, she carried her mannequins through casinos herself, transporting them inside her Jeep Cherokee.

"'When you walk through a casino with a mannequin, people always have the most horrible jokes,' she said."

So, she was sometimes laughed at... people would snigger and make jokes...

But, being laughed at wasn't enough to stop her!

I liked the other part about her beginnings, too...

"A customer requested mannequins, so Wainwright borrowed a few from a friend. The income paid for her apartment for a month. Encouraged, she created a website for Las Vegas Mannequins.

"The Indian Pavilion exhibiting at MAGIC was her first customer, with a 15-mannequin order. She stored the bodies in her condo, building her business bit by bit."

So... The first mannequins that she rented to a customer, she actually borrowed from a friend!

And as she got deeper into the business, she was storing mannequins in her condo!

It shows, you can work with what you've got - you don't necessarily need to "spend big" to get your start in a business...

You can use your connections and their assets (here, she first used her friend's mannequins before buying her own), and also use your existing assets (like she used her own condo as storage space)...

Thanks, Phil, it was a very interesting article, with some great wisdom there... :)

Best wishes,

Dien
