Re: The essence.

seems that my 'foggy' brain is out in left field ...

but ..

totally agree with the give to get principle..

help people get what they want

and

the old golden rule...not the new one.

yall would really appreciate the meeting I attended the other day ...

the TRUMP university people were in town ..selling at it finest NLP and Caldini moments...

masters of the 'turning the small commitment into the larger one'...first they guys had YOU make a little, discreet wave of your hand if you thought _______ was a good idea ...

then . when the idea was explained in more detail, only a idiot would NOT agree it was a GREAT idea ! Then of course, all those who had a modicum of intelligence signaled that this was true by ....a show of hands.

then , you ready for this ?, the speaker announced a 15 minute break for water or smokes, and ....oh by the way ..(Columbo-ed)

, after discounting the price of the program to a lousy 1500 bux, and reinforcing the intelligence level of those who 'understood', he asked that everyone with their hand up, please STAND..! (authority)

and go to the back of the room to confirm their order for this INTELLIGENT program ....

I looked on in amazement as several of the older folks, realizing they had painted themselves into a Caldini corner, just couldnt come up with the balls to tell the guys that they knew THEY were being manipulated..

and ...yep ...ordered the program ...

One guy ,to whom I spoke after the seminar, bought TWO programs ...
and told me

" I am an experienced real estate investor, and probably know 98% of the information in the books, but that other 2% is worth the 2k easily"

and I asked him how he knew that to be true...

then

he WOKE up ...literally ...shook his head, eyes widened, and told me

" I must be out of my mind"...I suggested that he had been hypnotized....

I told him to go get a refund, and he was too embarassed....having made a PUBLIC committment...

that Caldini guy really pegged this one

anyway , thought yall might want to attend one of the Trump seminars ...and take notes...

I've come full circle at SOWpub. Fini. ...jeez , sounds like Good by ?

Thanks for sharing that Gordon! Here's a discovery I made... the year I was Elvis...

Hi Gordon,

Thanks for sharing all that! I found it very valuable...

In particular, it's true that everyone has an "imperfect" image of themselves, but then try to project a "more-perfect" image than their reality to others...

So - as I gather from your post - it's valuable to be able to see past this image that everyone is projecting, to the reality that is behind that... Which is a person with insecurities, their own problems, and so on...

I can see how this can be liberating! I'll have to mull this over some more...

Thanks!

Meanwhile... I'll tell a very short (kind of embarassing) story...

When I was about to enter 8th grade, I changed schools, because we were about to move houses. So I moved to a new school, closer to our new house...

Anyway, I saw this as a big chance to "experiment" socially. So, I tried a different "personality".

At my new school, the kids didn't know me - so this was a rare chance to try something like this with a "fresh" start...

Usually, I had been the "smart-alecky" geek. Anyway, I had also been a fan of Elvis movies in my youth. I liked his "rebellious" attitude that Elvis Presley always portrayed in these movies...

So, I thought I'd "be" an "Elvis-like" character. I practiced my sneer, and figured how to curl my upper lip. But most of all, I practiced his "devil-may-care" flouting-authority attitude...

Anyway, the bottom line is... It worked! I was quite popular among the other kids at my new school. They liked this new "personality" of mine! Girls thought I was pretty cool, and quite a few seemed to be attracted to me...

However, it was a bit like putting on an "act"... (Also, my grades plummeted - in line with my new "personality"!) Eventually (after about a year), I reverted to my more geeky (and less cool) self. But it was a very interesting social experiment! I could be "cool" if I wanted to be...

Thanks Gordon for sharing your experiences and wisdom... :)
