Do you know what that phrase means?

I'll bet not. I thought I did, up until 2 weeks ago.

Cheryl & Garth & I took a Saturday jaunt up to Bagley State Park on the Georgia/Alabama border and had lunch at the lodge. Cheryl picked up some brochures to read while we waited.

And according to one of those brochures, that "Creek don't rise" phrase originated within a few miles of where we were eating lunch.

It had nothing to do with a creek, but everything to do with the Creek ...

... Indians, that is. According to the local "brochure historian," the Creek Indians lived in that area, and European settlers had to constantly worry about the Creek rising; hence, the phrase.

Don't know whether it's truth or not, but it sure made me wonder about all the things I think I know ... that may not be true.

On second thought, maybe I'm happier not knowing.
