You're right, all of Roger Corman's movies were in profit (except for one, as you said)!
He knew what audiences wanted... And gave it to them... while cutting costs to the bone!
And they weren't all low budget trash...
For example, the original
"Little Shop of Horrors" movie was a low-budget Roger Corman film... (The one from 1960, not from 1986, which was a remake...)
A lot of interesting lessons there...
