Default Pretend copy is a waste of time (I agree!)

If you want to write copy which sells something, write copy for a product where people can buy it or not.

Put your copy in front of the right target, and get the only opinion you really need.
Hi Gordon,

I don't really "get" why anyone would write pretend copy...

There is a lot of extra information you need to write "real" copy. For example, who is the target market?

The more you know about your target, the more effective your copy can be...

With regard to writing "pretend" copy... Could you even know the "target market" for the "pretend" copy? And if so, what's the point, since no target market will ever see it?

The target market are the judge, jury, and executioner!

There are too many opportunities to write "real" copy! Then - as you say - grit your teeth, and find out the real results!

Best wishes,

Dien

P.S. Thanks Gordon, for sharing some great stories and advice!
