![]() I passed on Riding the Bullet...primarily because I'm not a horror fan (I do like Poe though). However, I wanted to see exactly what Stephano was doing with the seriograph, The Plant...and the hooks that would make me want to pay for the next installment.
Since he is charging 1 buck for about 20 pages of work...you know that there are at least 3 more sections (cause they are already done) and potentially a couple more...making the book between 100-150 pages OR $5-7. You'd pay just about that much for a good paperback. Who says that old Stephen doesn't know anything about marketing? As for me...I was more than amused with part one and two...I chuckled to myself repeatedly and commented about his writing style and about his ability to develop characters. I downloaded part one AND two in a format that preserved the fonts HE wanted...which is one more big PLUS of PDF format. Of course, I will get part 3...especially with the teaser on the last page of part 2. In fact...I wanted it right after I finished part 2... Any one else enjoying the process? CJ P.S. I actually found myself really enjoying the official King website. There is a great deal of humor in it AND it is exceptionally well done. Now some people will say, "heck, if I was a multimillionaire, I'd have a great website too" but that's not necessarily the case. Take Robert Allen...his INITIAL site was...NOT good...sure he paid HIS guru of sorts to put that up, touting him as the next inet marketing messiah...then what happenend...version 2...NOW we are on version 3...one that is a whole lot more user friendly AND focused MORE on the user than on Robert. Stephen King KNOWS what his visitors want AND he gives it to them masterfully. Study his process... If Your Haven't Downloaded 'The Plant', Here's where to get it... ![]() |

![]() I think that I had my ID set to my initials and corrected that today.
I did send Gordon a message earlier today thanking him for this site. The quality of many other boards have deteriorated...and several have disappeared or become PRIVATE. I truly tire of the bickering, personal attacks and dribble. So, for the most part, I quit hanging out there... I also debated running another board but you know my schedule dear - constantly running...and those other projects keep growing and growing...and multiplying! Lucky for me that Gordon sprung forth into action, responded to the dirth and put up this quality board...freeing me of the obligation of running one (thanks again Gordon). Lucky for me, my other board takes care of itself as I have several self-appointed moderators. I think that is great. So, I just might have a little place to flit around...here I mean. Hey...did you notice that hanging around this site makes you feel more like you know the real Gordon...not that there was ever a fake Gordon... there is just MORE of him here. I can't tell you how many stories and posts I have read. It's nice to know that someone else shares my passion for cookin' (and I suspect eatin'). [g] By the way, I might be traveling to So. Cal to pick up a VW campervan. Now don't go a scratchin' your head wondering what I'm doing now...the plans haven't changed...not really...they've been expanded a bit. I'll be on the road most of October and it would be real nice to load all my gear, my cameras, my camping stuff, shovels, computers and that huge keyboard...with room to spare...into the VW bus. Heck I'd never have to come home right? I'll look forward to your email. CJ |

![]() Hi Cheryl,
Stephen King does have an interesting experiment going.... Thanks for pointing us to it.... I downloaded the two installments of "The Plant" (and paid for 'em), though I haven't read them yet. But his system is curious in itself.... Stephen King is testing out a sort of "honor" system.... You can get it *without* paying, but you have to agree beforehand that you will pay. It's a bit like the early days of shareware.... Okay, I'm off to enjoy the two installments of "The Plant".... Thanks Cheryl. :) Dien P.S. I've never read Stephen King before, so this will be new for me.... In the "horror" genre I used to enjoy H. P. Lovecraft, and I enjoyed a few things Ray Bradbury wrote in this genre too.... ![]() Hi Sandy,
> How much space did the download take or > did you download it to an ebook reader? > I have so much on my hard drive now.. > thanks It didn't take up too much space (I downloaded the PDF versions).... The Plant part 1 was 140 kB, and part 2 was 172 kB.... They were 20 pages and 25 pages long respectively (in PDF format).... I know, I know, MUCH smaller than "Remote Hypnosis" is.... RH is pretty huge because of the pictures.... The Plant, being a novel, doesn't need the pictures so is much smaller.... :) Cheers, Dien |

![]() Sandy,
My portable is bursting at the seams. I'm always trying to squeeze a kb here and there. Make sure that you download the pdf version that keeps the fonts Stephen intended. I won't ruin it but you'll see what I mean when you read it! CJ |
