I agree with you completely, that "finding win/win deals" is quite different from "making them happen."

I do have one Roger Dawson book - I liked it! I read it many years ago. It's where I learned how to do some "NLP" stuff...

There seem to be thousands of books on negotiation - and virtually none on "finding" the deals.

I do know something about it - but I'm always "hungry" to find out more!

Some people may not realize that doing a "deal" does not have to involve the transfer of money - however, you do have to bring "something" to the table. That "something" could be your own skills, time, or some assets you have of your own (which could include contacts)...

I'll quickly mention a recent "offer" I made. (I can't give too many details as I don't want this post to show up if someone does a "Google" search.)

I recently found out about a cinema in my city which has been vacant for around 2 years. The owner wants to sell it or lease it - but nobody has yet offered what he wants.

I made an offer to run the cinema for him on a profit-sharing basis. The way I see it, it is a "win/win" offer for everyone if it is profitable, and even if it is not profitable, he won't lose money. As it is right now, he still has to pay various taxes and bills for his cinema property even while is vacant, and is not bringing in any money.

(My offer was rejected, as they said they only want to sell it or lease it. However, if it stays vacant longer, who knows? Of course, they could also just reduce the price they're willing to sell it or lease it for, too...)

By the way, I am not experienced in running a cinema - but I know people who do have this experience. If it went ahead, I would partner with one of them in running the cinema, and I personally would focus on the marketing side of the business...
