Default Creating Books Vs. Special Reports

Over the years I have created many audio files concerning my performing career as well as my experience in consulting with clients.

I took one of those big audio files and created a special report called, "A Lifetime of Performing". This report is over 60 pages. It could easily be converted into an ebook.

My question is whether this special report is more valuable as a "special" ebook or a report.

Is there a difference in perception between the two?

Of course, the way the material is positioned makes a difference, I suppose.

The reason I am asking is because I have all these audio files just sitting around, and I intend to sell them or license them to get the value out of them.

Any thoughts?

Cheers,

Millard

Personally, a book holds more value (even if I don't actually read it)

Positioning is everything.

A "free" book just for the price of shipping and handling is still an option.

A paid-for book works - just skimmed the "look inside" of a £25 book on Amazon that had free links to both audios and videos that near enough covered the book's contents. So even though I didn't buy, I'm on their email list.

Audios turned into podcasts.

The options go on and on.

Which I suppose is a long-winded way of saying go with what your gut tells you to do. Or even (time permitting) do more than one of the things you're considering!

Default Why not all, or start with one.

This feels like very familiar territory Millard. Have you sold any in report form?

My take is; once audio has been converted to text, it takes next to no time to put it into all and every form out there.

The problem, and I know this will be familiar, is...SELLING the form. BUYERS.

Now the format may determine the where, as in Kindle edition of your eBook, or if you were to use any Print On Demand, even a home version of it...might determine which format best fits.

Gander this page:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BSHC84QL...8133748&sr=1-1

Mostly print on demand OR from his stock on Amazo, with one on Kindle.

https://www.thriftbooks.com/w/how-to...&idiq=24821133 One of his many paperbacks from CREATE SPACE INDEPENDENT PUBLISHER (Now Kindle
direct Publishing)

https://www.audible.com/author/Denni...ing/B003VO84HI Here he is on Audible.

I believe we talked about offering a course, one which could be mailed, email or good old USPS, like my original Chattel Report was, and I printed and collated at home.

Since you have them in Audio, audible or chirp, and then with text, epub, pdf, printed books on demand.

Maybe contact Dennis Regling and ask him the question, he seems best suited to give an experienced answer.

Gordon

P.S. I also suggest you punch up the title, it is biographical...wouldn't the readers be more interested in HOW TO GET GIGS?

Default Here's what I would do...

Hi Millard,

I don't know if you have an email list... If you don't, the first thing I would do is start an email list...

Why? It makes it much easier to sell what you want!

You would want to gather people interested in performing magic as a paying career...

How can you start an email list?

If you already have materials, there are multiple ways...

One way is to sell books cheaply on Amazon... Tell them in the book that you'll give them extra material for free if they sign up on your website...

A lot of people are also growing their email lists on Twitter, Instagram, and TikTok... You use the same method. Offer free goodies if they sign up...

That's what I would focus on... An email list is money in the bank, if you use it well...

Best wishes,

Dien

I appreciate all the ideas !

I did develop a 26 week course after all the reports for an upsell.

With al that, the idea of creating an email list seems the most valuable.

Looks like that is my next project... developing that list!

Thanks Dien for your input!

Cheers,

Millard

Default This lady is ingenious...

Hi Millard,

I wanted to share an interesting example I came across... Social media manager and coach, Rachel Pedersen...

She's on Instagram, Tiktok, and elsewhere...

https://www.instagram.com/themrspedersen/

https://www.tiktok.com/@themrspedersen

But what I really want to highlight are her "free gifts"... At each of the above accounts, she has a link to her marketing resources, which is here...

https://msha.ke/rachelpedersen

All of those are free!

Of course, if you want any of them... you need to put in your email address... and she is growing her email list...

What is different is - she is not just offering one "free gift"... She is offering 13 different free gifts... She's hoping at least one will catch your fancy!

I like this model (and I want to adapt it myself)...

It's a bit like the "bullets" approach to writing copy. You write a lot of "addictive" bullets... In the hope that at least one will draw the reader in enough to want to buy the product!

She's using a similar kind of approach... but with free gifts, to get you to join her email list!

You only have to want one of her free gifts... and she's got your email address...

It's ingenious, in my book...

Best wishes, Dien

Default Developing List with Gifts

Dien,

Thanks for letting me know about this!

Talk about using gifts to develop a list... this is first class.

Cheers,

Millard

P. S. I've got enough special reports, that this idea could work for me as well !
