Default Your Most Pressing Health Question?

Hello SowPubbers,

I'm working on filling a new website with a lot of good useful content. The new website is on Anti Aging. Living Long & Looking Young.

Could you help me out and let me know what would you like to know about health and anti aging?

What would you love to see on an anti aging website?

Well, these won't be my most pressing questions since I already have the knowledge (not all but then nobody knows it all) but I can tell you what most folks in their senior years are concerned about. They talk about staying mobile and keeping their mind functioning well.

Mobility topics seem to focus primarily on staying on their feet and being flexible enough to care for themselves. They worry about getting frail, spinal fractures and their knees giving out. Yes, they worry about falling since it can be especially debilitating in the elderly.

Alzheimers is the big worry, of course, where the brain is concerned but it's not the only one. They also worry about the effects of all the drugs that doctors seem to be prone to ordering on a whim these days instead of seeking the root cause and addressing it, about the undue influence of Big Pharma on our health care, and about doctors who don't really care about their patients (more common than you'd believe).

Hope this helps in some small way.

ARTHRITIS...

Early warning signs ... Best ways to delay/minimize symptoms ... Current treatment reviews ... What's new on the horizon ... That sort of thing.

Thats the big one for me.

Good luck,

Default I Don't Get Sick, So No Question. But...

Ankesh,

Thanks for asking about what would make useful Content.

Before embarking on this Project, know this...

Generally speaking, people who are into anti-aging don't call it that - they call it Life Extension and a few other Terms. They know Bulkloads about health already and can spot a Johnny Come Lately a mile off.

Unless you know who people like David Wolfe and Aubrey de Grey are off the top of your head without needing to Google them you might want to reconsider. Do your know what Ormus is without Google? Do you agree or disagree with the Telomerase theory? What about Dr. Leonard Hayflick's ideas on it? Does reading my Immunity 101 in my Inventing The Sars Virus post http://www.sowpub.com/forum/showthre...ty#post1312 5 give you knew knowledge or do you yawn at such "everyone knows" immunity stuff? Do you understand Why Vitamin C is so important for us to consume? Is the HIV cause of AIDS?

My point being, that Life Extensionists have more than a fleeting passing interest in the topic. And unless you share that same interest, you won't really know if the Content is accurate or more mumbo jumbo passed on by Big Pharma or a subsidiary of them.

Ultimately, you do what you like. My concern is your Interest in the field. And thus your ability to know the wheat from the Govt Endorsed Chaff.

Hi Ankesh,

I know I'm one of many billions of people fighting the "battle of the bulging waistline"...

Though I'm better than I was a few years ago. Probably because I do exercise regularly now (mainly by walking every day), and I think I'm eating more healthily too...

Of course, this is a huge area, targeted by lots of people...

I AM very interested in longevity, though I'm not "hardcore". I know there's a recent book out on so-called "Blue Zones" - investigating those areas where people regularly live long lifespans, and what they do (though I don't have a copy, and haven't read it). This is a topic I'm interested in, though I don't pursue it actively, however I have read the odd book or article...

From what I've read of it, it sounds like the "Blue Zones" book is NOT comprehensive... While he's included Okinawa, he's missed out the Caucasus mountains (such as Abkhazia and Georgia), for example, where people often live long lives... There are also reports of longevity of people living in the Himalayas (the people of the Hunza Valley for example), that the book I think doesn't include...

I do have one friend (though I've lost touch with him, I must make an effort to get back in touch, though he changed his cell phone no. which makes it difficult) who's into this longevity stuff "hard core"... He has plenty of books on this topic (and other "alternative health" topics too)...

To me, the diet and practices of places in the world that produce a lot of people who live to be 100 years old or more is fascinating...

And yes, I do incorporate some of these things into my own diet...

(Well, with the exception of calorie-restriction! That one's a tough one... And it contradicts all the research that says eating chocolate is good for me... )

Cheers,

Dien

Default Re: I Don't Get Sick, So No Question. But...

Thanks Michael for making an excellent point.

I'm by no means an expert on anti aging. But I think there is a want there that I can fill (and make some money in the process).

Everyone wants to live longer. But there is hardly anything about anti aging in the mainstream. Most of the anti aging stuff is jargon filled that the masses don't understand. The stuff that life extensionists read.

So... I hope to get my news from the Life Extension folks and from medical journals and from various sources and spread it to the masses .

But saying that, I'm lucky to say that I'm surrounded by some very smart people. There are 3 others who will be writing the bulk of the content for my new website. And I'll keep a constant look out for and hire guest writers too.

Default Put the fork down...

Dien,

Thanks for mentioning Calorie Restriction.

One so-called Longevity Guru goes by the name of Elixxir and you can see his website here http://www.immortalism.com

Last time I looked he didn't say What his program was. But my research reveals it is Calorie Restriction. Of course, if you feel you want to pay him $1,500 to have dinner with him, $5,000 to spend a day with him, $9,900 for a weekend, $70k for 8 weeks or $1,000,000.00 for a year with him, then Hook In. ) - Or buy his book for $13.
