Another Gary Halbert-like "smackdown"
Gary Halbert's latest newsletter (see below on this board) reminds me of something I came across which is the best dressdown I have ever seen of people who are in the habit of promoting each other's work publicly just because they are friends and not necessarily out of genuine endorsement of the contents.
Go to the Amazon.com page for Persuasive Online Copywriting: How to Take Your Words to the Bank by Bryan Eisenberg and scroll down the page to Susanna Hutcheson's reader review headed "Helpful --- But Don't Expect Results." This totally convinced me not to buy the book. I think you'll see some similarities with what Gary Halbert did, but in a more civilized and logical presentation. Re: Another Gary Halbert-like "smackdown"
Hi Marcia,
Thanks for pointing this out. I see the similarity. And I now have a page of Roy H. William's book reviews to go through later! Like you said, I'm not planning to purchase the book, but I might read it. Roy H. Williams is a personal favorite recently and even his passing mention might be worth glancing at. Maybe I'll just head over to Roy's free site right now to read some from the teacher and not the student. Success, Erik |

What a bunch of BS!
What kind of software can do what Gary claims?
(see the newsletter linked in a post below) Let me get this straight: My computer creates a slightly different letter "a" then every other computer on the planet because of the pressure I apply to the key. S-U-R-E Gary! That completely negated any credibility Gary created with his holier then thou computer expert rant. (What do you want to bet that since his house geek was leaving he pulled a little going away prank on Gary and told him that there was software that could do that. He knew Gary wouldn't be able to resist braging about it in his newsletter and making a fool out of himself. Gary probably made up all the stuff about his uncle to make the story sound better. ) > Gary Halbert's latest newsletter (see below > on this board) reminds me of something I > came across which is the best dressdown I > have ever seen of people who are in the > habit of promoting each other's work > publicly just because they are friends and > not necessarily out of genuine endorsement > of the contents. > Go to the Amazon.com page for Persuasive > Online Copywriting: How to Take Your Words > to the Bank by Bryan Eisenberg and scroll > down the page to Susanna Hutcheson's reader > review headed "Helpful --- But Don't > Expect Results." This is probably how he tracked the email...
Hi James,
I agree with you - the story GH told about key pressures is ridiculous. What's more likely is that his "hacker" friend simply looked at the full headers of the email that he received. It's easy to fake the "from" line on an email (spammers do it all the time), but full headers usually give the game away as to the email's true origin. Knowing this, he could have compared the full headers of one email with another, and noticed a match. That would tell you that both came from the same source - even if the "from" addresses are different. That's my guess as to how he *probably* determined the email's true source. - Dien Rice |

Re: This is probably how he tracked the email...
I suspect you are right Dien. But of course you have to have the "special software" and as you well know only Halbert, the Pope, George W., Indiana Jones and Bill Gates have a copy.
(Gates has 3) Actually, rumor has it that there was an 8th copy and that is the REAL reason we went into Iraq but I'm not gonna be the one to spread rumors. "If I told you what I can do with a computer (and I told you the 100% truth) you would be afraid of me for the rest of your life. You would always be in fear I might turn my expertise against you" -- Gary "Your Worst F***ing Nightmare" Halbert. Damn -- Now we gotta worry that Gary might use his powers for evil. Could this be the coming of... DARK HALBERT??!!???? > Hi James, > I agree with you - the story GH told about > key pressures is ridiculous. > What's more likely is that his > "hacker" friend simply looked at > the full headers of the email that he > received. Re: This is probably how he tracked the email...
Hi James,
Halbert is a great story teller and definitely makes things up to create even greater interest. Don't hold me to the dates, but 15 years ago or so when there was a terrible earthquake in Los Angeles, Gary tells of some incredibly valuable materials on how to profit from the internet (or something like that) that were almost lost forever. Anyway, Gary rushed back to Los Angeles, sifted through the devastation, and recovered these irreplacable materials. Of course, now the $10,000 seminar could be held in two weeks and not be cancelled and never again rescheduled. You gotta love this guy ... really! Robert Campbell |
