My neighbor did pet grooming in her basement, then moved into a small shop and then even a larger one, her business is still booming. For this one, here is a list of things you could do if pets are your thing.

Pet pics, fantasy, fun, memorable, frames

1. 1. 1. 1. 1. Special pet clothes
            2. Bake your own dog bones
            3. Pooper scooper (even has a franchise)
            4. Rent a pet
            5. Training dogs and other pets
            6. Petting zoo for kids birthday parties
            7. Custom toys
            8. Halloween costumes
            9. Day care

As noted, all kinds of way to make a buck with pets. Exotic pets are always popular for schools and all elementary schools (most) have a budget to bring in a “learning experience” expert, and for a decent hourly fee at that.

* Way, way back in one of the reports I talked about how Tiny the Tow Truck driver got into business via a "takeover" contract. Over the years, I've helped some of you to take over a business with no money out of pocket. Most often, they want something, and like the lady selling her pet business, she is retiring, but a big wad of a cash might not be her best choice, with taxes and all, which is one big reason why businesses get sold in a take over manner.

In most instances, it operates along the lines of a land contract, in that there is usually a default penalty clause for not making payments up to and often including a reversion of ownership.

Sort of like buying a car with dealer financing. If anyone wants to know more about the "Takeover" strategy, let me know.

I think one way to approach the pet market is to realize that, for many people today, pets are the replacement kids...

So anything people do with their kids, nowadays they're doing with their pets!

That includes dressing them up in a cute way, holding dog or cat birthday parties, dressing them up and taking them trick-or-treating during Halloween, buying them presents during Christmas... and so on...!

Some couples don't want children, so pets are a replacement. Others are single, so that person can't have children anyway (with no partner), or a couple may want children but can't have them for one reason or another... Pets satisfy this need in their lives, so many people are happy to spend accordingly, because it satisfies a deep need they have...

Dress them up and take cute pet portraits. People will pay just as much and often much more for professional portraits of their pets compared to portraits of their children.

Cutomers never say.... that's just not Fido's smile or he was having a bad hair day or you photographed his bad side... they just say... wow... how did you get him to sit still and pose for the portraits beause I can't get him to hold still when I take my own snaps of him....

Then they buy everything you took because they love their pets just the way they are and because they realize old Fido isn't going to live forever, so they buy everyrthing you show... provided you have a good sales talk designed to steer them towards a $2,500 package.

Today she charges $1500 for the sitting fee alone... (prints are extra) and she has more gigs than she can handel.

It's a fasinating story of how she got into it by accident.. she was in IT, got hurt in an accident, looked for work she could still do... couldn't believe people would pay for pet potraits and had no idea of how quick her pet photography business would take off.

I use to sell a course on ebay on how to make $500 a day photographing pets. Started selling it for $27... quickly put the price up to $197.00 I quit selling it over 5 years ago because it was taking up too much time. Better to just shoot and sell portraits one wekend a month and not have to deal with dreamers who are full of questions but short on action. Or the haters and stalkers who use to hang out on this forum and post nasty things about you.

And even worse are other photographers who hate you for sharing the tricks of the trade with newbies. Better to listen to Gordon, Fly Low and Collect The Dough!

Really good info, Gordon. I came across something recently, that may be of use here. Pets, just like people, are prone to slide, slip and get injured while moving about on ice and snow. When they do, they sometimes need special care/therapy, on their way to recovery.

Think visiting nurses for pets.

The vet I talked to, specializes in pet injuries brought about from auto accidents. These are injuries sustained while the pet is riding in the vehicle, not crossing in front of it. It's more common than you think.

If I were looking to build a home pet care business, one that included visits to care for injured or ill pets, a veterinarian might be an excellent referral source, for these types of opportunities.

Hi Gordon,

My brother just bought a device. His kids consider it a pet - they call it "Pluto"...

It's a great pet, since it's a "pet" that cleans the house!

"Pluto" is a Roomba robot vacuum cleaner!

Now, dogs are the opposite. Instead of cleaning up the dirt, they dirty the yard with their droppings...

So, how do you keep doggy yard droppings clean?

One company is helping people doing it, with their device...

It's a device where you scoop up the doggy droppings, and place it in the container. You add some solution, and it breaks down the doggy doo cleanly, without flies or terrible smells. After it's been processed, the liquid waste can be disposed of in a hole in your yard...
