Default G-mail...Yes? No? Maybe?

I'm changing my ISP and will lose my primary e-mail address.

I'm looking for a good one and am considering Google's relatively new G-mail.

Any comments or suggestions about this are greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Lawrence

Gmail is...

Even though some don't like the Ad format...

I use it as a Great Research tool for Niche Finding...

Great for talking to yourself.

Gmail is Now available to Anyone, although you can still invite yourself so you can have multiple email addresses if you like and of course to invite friends...

You should be aware that Gmail offers absolutely no privacy at all. If you read Google's TOS etc you'll get the scoop (well, part of it anyway). I gave up my Gmail account because of the profiling of everything I did on or with it. My mail is MY business. Period.

Some folks will dispute this but information about me and others I communicated with, became common knowledge and the only way they could've accessed that information was via my email at Gmail. I will grant you that email is subject to abuses regardless but Gmail's was blatant and obvious as the info appeared no where else ever. I've never had that problem with any other email I've used so...for what it's worth.

I had a feeling that thread would be coming back to life...

If some are concerned about using Gmail due to privacy issues...

There are way more Benefits in using Gmail than Not in my opinion But I respect all opinions on the subject...

Although... Should we also stop using Google and Googling?...

No chance that's ever going to happen...

Imagine, your Gmail is read, your web pages are read, your clicks are .... Following the rules of Boolean logic there should be absolutely no way that ...

Hi Sandi,

Thanks for talking about privacy.

As far as I know - Gmail goes through your mails only to serve relevant ads to you. No human reads your emails.

And your email address isn't sold to others.

I've never had a problem with them and use them extensively for almost all my website email addresses. Love their spam prevention and filters and archive feature. But seems like you've had a problem...

>Some folks will dispute this but information about me and others I
>communicated with, became common knowledge

Could you talk a bit more about it without revealing the private details?

Cannot do, Ankesh, due to the highly confidential nature of the research. Sorry.

Hi Phil,

I also have multiple Gmail addresses. (Originally I did it by "inviting" myself, but now I think you can just sign up, I think there's a link from the main Gmail page...)

I have one Gmail account for "main" use, another for special "Google news alerts" I'm signed up for, and another for some (not all) mailing lists I'm on mainly for research purposes...

By the way, how do you use it for niche finding? Please share a few more details...!

Cheers

Dien

Hi Dien,

Actually nothing complicated...

I use Gmail as a Keyword tool by Using/entering particular niche keywords & multiple keyword phrases into Gmail...

And receiving Quality newsletters in particular niche industries related to interests and needed research...

As I mentioned... Even though some don't like the Ad format... I Love them...

Out of respect for other businesses and their Ad budgets I never click on their Ads... I just do multiple copy & paste's to collect the URL's...

Surprisingly I find Lots of interesting ideas, products and information Different from Googling and other forms of research...

In fact using Adword tools and Adsense Ads off of Quality web concepts is another Great Research tool for Niche Finding...

As you mentioned "Google news alerts"... Trying doing some copying & pasting into Gmail for more ideas...

Sometimes all you need is a few Good Finds to Create some nice Toll Postions...

I'll throw out one more interesting idea out there that only a few are Doing...

Contacting niche Newsletter publishers who are Not publishing their newsletters open face on a website/blog... Do some Deal Making to get access and permission to Use their content...

They get Free Publicity with all their links with Free web/blog hosting on a different IP address and other Goodies that you can “twist” & more...

You get to Use their Content to Profit with by placing Ads with one of the many Advertising networks & other stuff...

That's a great idea!

I checked it out (by looking at the ads I usually ignore in my own Gmail) - and you're right, they're great "idea"-generators!

That's also a fantastic idea... Thanks Phil!

It's a true "win/win" type of deal too...
