Default I Remember The Ice-Cream Man, Arriving In His Ice-Cream Van....

When I was a kid, during the summer, every now and then you'd hear the tune of the ice-cream man blaring through the loud-speakers of his van. You knew that was the time to rush inside and get some money to get an ice-cream, before he drove by!

So my brother and I would rush inside the house, and grab our meagre savings. If we'd already spent it on candy and chocolate already, it was time to go to that other source of income: Mom and Dad. "Dad, could we please have some money for ice-cream?" we'd say, worried that the ice-cream man would drive by before we had a chance to collect some change for a delicious ice-cream!

And of course, if Dad said no, if Mom was out of ear-shot we'd sneak up to her and try our luck a second time. :)

Gosh, that ice-cream man had us kids well-trained! But think....

Where would the ice-cream man be without that jingle? If he just drove around the neighborhood silently, where would his business be?

I'll tell you.... he'd be nowhere! He'd be sitting in a van full of ice-cream, and without the buckets full of kids' change.

That jingle is his promotion. He's breaking your "bubble of your preoccupation" - as Gordon teaches in Remote Hypnosis, Lesson 1.

For promotion, you need your own "jingle."

For some people, one of their "jingles" could be posting on this forum. Not posting on this and other forums, for some people, could be like the ice-cream man driving around in his van without a jingle. No-one knows he's there.

But when you post - both here and elsewhere - people notice you. They'll see there's something there they should check out. :)

And of course there are other ways. But without your "jingle," you'll drive right by and no-one will turn their head.

I recently posted about how Richard Branson promoted one of his new businesses, "Virgin Brides." He's a master at getting attention by getting himself in the news. Even his crossing of the Atlantic by speed-boat in record time was an opportunity, for him, to get himself, and the "Virgin" brand-name, in the news. And his several attempts at flying around the world in a hot-air balloon were also partly aimed at the same thing - drawing attention to all the Virgin companies. That's Richard Branson's form of a "jingle."

Another form of "jingle" was used by E. Joseph Cossman to promote his "spud gun" at a trade show. He arranged before the trade-show to fill a room full of potatoes! A room full of potatoes, with kids enjoying their spud guns, was a great attention-getter! It was his ice-cream man jingle.

For others, their "jingle" is an affiliate program. By creating an affiliate program, they get their "jingle" played out on thousands of web sites across the internet. It's obviously a very powerful tool if you have a good "win/win" affiliate program going. (We here at Sowpub are currently looking into possibly having our own affiliate program, possibly for next year....)

So, the "jingle" can take many forms, and it's probably wise to use more than one type.

But remember.... It's tough for the ice-cream man to sell ice-cream without a jingle!

Cheers :)
