Angelo DiMarco was a Ranger in the 1st Battalion that fought in the battle of Anzio, at the town of Cisterna where Nazi troops overwhelmed the Rangers and those that weren't killed were put on trains to be sent to POW camps. Angelo and 3 other rangers tore up floor boards from the train and dropped onto the tracks, one was killed instantly, two were wounded and Angelo survived. Then he spent 5 months behind enemy lines, this was several months before D Day. Friend of the forum, and personal friend, Steve DiMarco was told the story as his father lay on his death bed. The book, written by Steve's cousin, Daniel Annechino, is MORE THAN A SOLDIER. I too, think it would make a good movie. Can you even imagine the idea of dropping onto railroad tracks from a fast moving train and then surviving for months behind enemy lines? I have a couple of copies of the book, if you like good WWII stories, this is a fast paced book culled from the true events of one man's heroic escape. MORE THAN A SOLDIER, available at Amazon. https://amzn.to/2OnLnae Gordon |
