You must OWN and CONTROL your business. Your business must be one of demand. Most IMers have a chicken/egg situation...they have a product, but no traffic to offer it to. IM, like all Marketing needs BUYERS...customers...a demand for your products. Some have high demand, but no traffic, no eyeballs, they are on the back roads of the world and hard to find. So, lets delve deeper. Some of our favorite SowPub GO TO stories come from our experiences. Dien and I have both 'apprenticed' with Harvey Brody, and his many years (over 60) of continuous success selling his ZOOM SPOUT OILER, to the tune of millions of dollars, illustrates the two secrets above; CONTROL/DEMAND. Ben Suarez struggled for five years, facing bankruptcy, because he had control but no demand...until Gary Halbert got him to sell astrology related stuff (HIGH demand). And we can go through countless case studies and other successes to illustrate this point. In my chosen area, Writing Specialty Reports, with an emphasis on self-improvement and making money, I have complete ownership of what I create, and can sell it (and have) to others, or can even license it out. The DEMAND for the topics I write on exists, however, it is my job to get the sign on the main highway, for the traffic to see. This again is the dilemma facing many creators...getting eyeballs and traffic on their stuff. Here are a few of the ways that is accomplished. Ads. Ben Suarez ran full page ads in the Sunday comic sections of newspapers. A method that would not work today. But he is doing big business running ads online, and using email to keep his business going after 50 years. ADJUST. Today ads might be on facebook, socials, etc. REFERRALS. Get a customer, ask for a referral. Give rewards, get more customers, more referrals. LISTS. Offer a reason for them to be on your lists, and use these lists to market and stay in touch...sounds simple, but if you are just starting you have no lists...and list building can be a very slow cumbersome process. But it works. JV'S, TODAY the "influencer" is the golden goose, those folks with followers (lists) and who are easily swayed by what the influencer says. OWNERSHIP and control.
