Default 800 radios, a trailor, and need thinkers...

First let me say what a joy it is to lurk on this forum. It is vastly different than so many boards dealing with business and marketing. There is thinking that happens here on a regular basis.

And if you do not subscribe to the monthly business ideas lettet, well, it is a good use of a few dollars.

Now to the my issue...

I have an commercial enclosed trailor that contains 800 UHF radios. On ebay they are going for an average of 75 bucks (a 5 month average).

The trailor has been in a friend's possession for 7 years. The company that let him use it to move the radios (they gave them to him) has been bought out and then the company that bought them was aquired.

The radios are his. He has had them for 7 years and just told me he could care less what happened to them, but wanted them moved. Done deal I told him.

Now, I did a trace on the VIN number and nothing is coming up. I know where the trailor was registered (Oklahoma) and am having trouble getting the answers I need from the government.

Here are the options as I see them.

1) Move the radios into another trailor. Sell them piece by piece.

2)Make a few contacts and move the whole lot including the trailor.

3)Sell a half lot and one by one the rest of them.

It seems to me that ownership of the trailor is still important.

So, my first step (after doing some searching) was to come here and ask you all. Anyone know the law on trailor ownership (it is a commercial "18 wheeler type of rig)?

Anyone have a contact to do a deal quick for a finders fee?

Any other thoughts?

Right now I am hitting ebay and google for UHF info and details. I have found several possibilities. However, in my mind, I like it as simple as I can get it. If you have a way that can happen let me know.

Feel free to email me, however, I think it would be good for the board to see the thinking here as well.

Again, great site, great resources and oh yeah...get the Sow letter.

Hi Jonathon,

I'm glad you're enjoying the Great Ideas Letter! Thanks for the kudos. :) It's really quite inexpensive when you think of how much it costs per issue... And we put a lot of work into each issue too (I hope it shows). :)

And I'm glad you like the forum too! I do think it is "different" from most other marketing/business forums - I think we are blessed with a "quality" crowd of folks who share some pretty darn good stuff. I know I'm a fan myself of some of the people who write here....

As for your radios - wow, sounds like you've stumbled on to a great opportunity! As for selling them one-by-one on eBay, if the radios are identical, I think the listings will be no problem. With eBay's free Turbo-Lister you can just write the auction once, then repeatedly list it when convenient... You can also use Dutch Auctions to sell many at a time.

Another possibility is you can even fully automate your auction listings if you use a service like Auctionworks. With their service, you can automate when listings will list - so you can have the same listings list at 8 pm every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday until the end of September (for example).

The only work-intensive area I see is the shipping part - however perhaps you could get an order-fulfilment company to help out with that.

If you want to sell the whole lot, or offer a Finder's Fee, a good place to check out could be Jim Straw's "WorldWide Business Exchange" (WWBE). (I don't get anything from mentioning it.) I've noticed in the past that there are several of these types of ads in WWBE. So it could be something worth checking out.

All the best with your radios! Looks like it has the potential to be a real winner! :)
