Default Things I wish someone had told me... A true story of how a new student helped to change my life....

This is a fantastic idea! I want to share the THINGS I WISH SOMEONE HAD TOLD ME too.... :)

Yes, this is like Newton's First Law, the Law of Inertia. One way of putting it is that an object at rest tends to stay at rest, unless some energy is applied to get things moving!

> 5) WORDS are power. Words thought. Words
> Spoken. Words Written. WATCH your words, see
> your life.

> We are what we think, speak and write. We
> can hurt, maim and destroy with words. We
> can build, create and prosper with words.

> Learn how words WORK for you.

I agree with this fully.... I honestly didn't understand this myself until after we had started the Seeds of Wisdom forum.... It was Gordon who helped me to see how powerful words can be!

Words can change moods and emotions, they can make people joyful or bring feelings of sadness.... In fact, this can happen with just one word. If I say "sunshine" it will bring about a different feeling than if I say "thunderstorm" - every word seems to have an emotion attached to it....

What I wished someone had told me I want to share in a true story....

I was a postgraduate university student, and there was a new student joining the department I was in. We students shared our offices, and there was a spare desk in the office I was in, so the new student got the desk next to mine....

She was very bright, and we got along great. As I got to know her better, I found out something....

I found out she already owned her own house! I was just 24 years old, and she was maybe 23, and she already owned her own house! I wondered how it was that she could own her own house at such a young age..... To be honest with you, I was a bit jealous, as I didn't have much to show regarding any kind of wealth.

As I got to know her better over the next year or so, I found out.... She had been investing since she was a teenager. Her parents had taught her how to.... She liked property, so she had started out by investing in Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) (known as Property Trusts in Australia)....

After she had built up enough money from that investment, she had bought herself an apartment. And after that, she sold that and bought herself a house.

Each time, she sold what she had for a profit, and bought something better and more expensive.... But again as an investment, with the intention of selling it for a profit later on.

When I thought about what I had done with my money I had so far, I realized I had wasted it.... What I hadn't wasted, I just had sitting in the bank, not earning very much. Since it was just sitting there, it was so tempting to spend it on something and waste some more....

That's when I thought, I WISH SOMEONE HAD TOLD ME about investment!

That's when I told myself I had to learn about how to invest my money! And I did.... I studied the stock market, and worked at it.... It was certainly worth learning about!

So, I'm very very glad now that when that new student came to our university, that she got the desk next to mine.... Since from her example, she helped to teach me about the importance of learning how to invest your money!

I'm glad to have read Dave's and Gordon's revelations on what they wish someone had taught them.... Thanks to both of you.... :)

Hope you liked my story! (It's 100% true.)

Default WOW

After reading the past few posts, I feel like I just stepped out of a seminar. Very powerful words. As someone just getting his foot in the door of entrepreneurship, I can't tell you how much all this means to be able to read and learn from.

I like this board more and more. Thank you for the great Seeds of Wisdom!

Thanks Dennis, everything here is a group effort.... I've also learned a lot from the story you shared of your son and the Jitter rings!

I've learned a LOT from Gordon over the past few years.... At first, just from reading his posts from afar, and more recently from being lucky enough to work with him.... One thing I've learned is that he really knows what he's talking about, his words are really worth studying! And they're fun to read too.... :)

Thanks though for your kind words.... I'm doubly glad when we can all share our useful experiences and the things we've learned so we can help each other to get ahead.... :)

A bit less than a year ago, Gordon posted a "philosophy".... That philosophy was "WE". That's what Sowpub will always stand for.... "WE" is far more powerful than "I", "me", or "you" will ever be!

WE.... It's a great philosophy. :)
