The latest word-of-mouth marketing phenomenon....

We mentioned it here on Sowpub a couple weeks ago.... It's Max Barry's "Nationstates" game....

This was "designed" to be a word-of-mouth phenomenon, and it's succeeding spectacularly. Max has done NO advertising for this site so far - it's ALL been pure word-of-mouth....

When we posted about NationStates a couple weeks ago, there were only about 20-30 "states" in the game.... Since that time, it's grown to over 1600 "states" as word gets around (and people tell their friends). The number of people who have "joined" the game is growing by roughly 50% per DAY.

It's spreading like wildfire through some college campuses.... Some specific "gaming" sites have had large numbers of members join up all at once, as word spreads around....

NationStates was created by Max Barry to promote his upcoming novel, "Jennifer Government" (due out in January, I think).

If you want a good example of successful word-of-mouth marketing in action, study this site! You can check every day just to see how rapidly it's growing....
