The new fad from our strange 40-ton cousins....

I heard this pretty interesting news item today....

We all know about fads... Things like hula hoops, the pet rock, and today the fad for scooters ....

Sometimes unusual fads can sweep the country, dances like the Twist, or mop-top haircuts, or all those other strange hairstyles that seem to sweep the younger folks now and then... :)

And even music fads, whether it is punk, disco, or rap....

Well, it turns out that fads are no longer limited to humans! They've found that another mammal has fads too....

Humpback whales!

No, I don't mean that humpback whales have discovered the Hawaiian shirt... :)

But it seems that humpbacks do have SONG fads.... Some scientists have observed a particular, unusual humpback whale song traveling as a fad from one group of humpback whales to another....

So, we seem to share our weakness for fads with our big humpback whale cousins...

Hmm... This could open up many new possibilities in marketing to humpback whales! :)
