![]() Napoleon Hill begins Think And Grow Rich with the idea; Thoughts Are Things (or could be).
Then he begins with DESIRE, the starting point and the rest of the book is about turning desire into an actualized thing. How to manifest the thought. The single hardest question I ask my "apprentices" is; What do you want and why? It is also why I lose half in the first 30 days. What will next year look like for you? And what I have gotten from the majority is a weak idea, a concept which can't be identified...so, many end up with a resounding I DON'T KNOW. If you don't know what you want, how can anyone help you get it? Many people are like the YO-YO dieters like Oprah, lose 25 pounds, gain back 30 and rinse and repeat for decades. At least Oprah admits to loving bread. She apparently has never met a loaf she couldn't consume. Today, the day before Memorial Day 2016, I'm working with a few people who are setting up their very first web site, and all are doing some version of an AUTOMATIC PRODUCT VENDING site, as described here: www.gjabiz.com/apv2.pdf Each person came to the game with different skills. The ones who know how to set up a web site and such, can get their APV up in a week or less. Someone with NO background needs time to learn some basics. But for the few people who are DOING this, as part of their ONE year goal, there are twice the number who have floundered, languished and have done nothing for over a month now. Why? Mainly because, they CAN'T answer the What do you want? question. A few started and had false starts due to their thinking a market existed where one didn't, better to find that out in the first couple of weeks than a year later. So, they have made adjustments. Still others had a pretty simple plan, but, they had a LIGHTBULB moment, and now are deep into a mess of a plan. Sure, if the Great Idea works, one will be golden. My experience shows very few BIG ideas implemented by people without a track record succeed. They take a year or two to find out NO one wants their product/service. I especially don't like complicated ideas which involve trying to get small business owners to do something, which could improve their bottom line tremendously...but require them to DO SOMETHING. The reason so many mom and pop businesses are gloriified jobs (without the glamour and pay of a real job) is because they are mediocre. The owners don't want to DO anything. So, I have to stand on the sidelines when someone wants to "help" a small business get more customers...with their whiz-bang software, or plan, or whatever... knowing they are doomed from the beginning. Some people have to learn on their own. On the other hand, if you have a drop-dead, flat-Stanley-stupid idea where YOU do all the work and they benefit...you have a much higher chance of success. I've referred to Page 36 and 76 of Think And Grow Rich as one way to map out your goals. I've seen firsthand how difficult it is for most people to PLAN and then execute the plan and stay with it. I'm going to say, once again, my paisan Vilfredo Pareto is spot on... 80% can't or are unwilling to do it whereas, the 20% that DO, are well on their way to manifesting the THING, they described happening one year from today. How about you? Have a goal for June 2017? And... Do you know what you want and why? .j Last edited by GordonJ : May 29, 2016 at 09:21 AM. |
