Default Openings to Opportunities

Good Monday Morning (or Tuesday to Dien and our other Aussie friends!) Sow Pub people!

Last week I felt very much the "Opportunity Woman"...there is just so much a-buzz in my life right now, and I am playing the game of figuring out how to optimize it all! I figured I would come here to one of my favorite spots and see what insights you might have.

Last week I focused on the word "Opportunity" and this week I am focusing on "Openings"...and I am working to stay focused on both without being overwhelmed.

Shake this up with impending birth? Well, my friend Faith told me yesterday I am trying to do too much before the baby is born (supposedly in five weeks, but we will see!)

With that, my nine year old is calling! (Spring Break!) so I need to run from they keyboard.

Any thought, suggestions, etc are highly valued.

With Purpose and Passion,

JULIE JORDAN SCOTT

Default Opportunities...

Hi Julie!

Openings and opportunities....

In spotting opportunities, I believe knowing about trends isn't considered highly enough by most people!

Why are trends so important?

We're all taught that to be in business we must "find a want", find out what it is that people want....

And consumer trends are about -- finding wants!

But not only that, consumer trends are wants which are INCREASING.... More and more people want a particular thing....

So if you want to "find a want," then it pays to know about trends....

So I've been immersing myself in the study of trends lately....

In one of your other messages, you mentioned the book "The Tipping Point". I agree, that is an EXCELLENT book!

I'm currently reading "The Anatomy of Buzz: How to Create Word-of-Mouth Marketing" by Emanuel Rosen, which seems to go into more depth than "The Tipping Point" (though it's not as entertaining a read, the info is excellent)!

When I think of the MOST successful business people I'm aware of, a lot of them profited from jumping on a solid long term trend.

Personal computers are one of the most obvious ones of the past two decades, but there are many others too.... The internet is a more recent example. Contrary to popular opinion, there ARE profitable internet companies.... AOL is a good example....

There are also lifestyle trends... More people are moving to live in the countryside, this is a lifestyle trend which will probably continue for a while....

To my mind, jumping on a trend is also the best way for the "little guy or gal" to succeed..... The product developer Bill Myers (who runs a two-person company, with him and his wife) is very successful at what he does, and he is one who keeps his eye on what trends are happening....

I'm not sure if this is what you meant, though....?

I hope you share more of your thoughts.... :)

Default Re: Opportunities...

Greetings, Dien!

Your post is naturally FAR beyond my question! I appreciate and value all the trend information...that is an interest of mine as well.

I was thinking more short term, though, since I have about a month to go before I may be taking significant time away from my business. Ofcourse, the time might NOT be so significant, its impossible to know today...so I think I am trying to plan the impossible!

Thanks for responding so thoughtfully, Dien! Its very appreciated!

With Purpose and Passion,

Default Open, Sesame !

Hey Julie,

It sounds like things are really going your way. Bet this is going to be YOUR year in many ways!

Your friend Faith is probably right though. Are we going to have to come tie you down? (grin)

Take care of yourself...and remember to BREATHE!
:)
Warmly,
Amber

Default B-R-E-A-T-H-E!!!

Hi Amber!

Excellent point you make, about remembering to Breathe! I can only do what I can do...focus, focus, focus and recognize that whatever happens happens. (You would think I would be a master at this, given all the twists and turns I have experienced in life!)

Thank you for responding, and I think I will use "Open, Sesame!" today AND in the future as well!

Joyfully,

JULIE
