Default I am asking this question because this is The Seeds of Wisdom Forum. Is spam justified?...

Thank you for opening this message.

Spam is BAAAD.
It looks like the very name of non-opt-in bulk email is infused with negative connotations.

My question to you:

Do you think that spam is justified when it is about saving a life of a man/woman/child

1.there is NO time for the "opt-in".
2.it is not about fund-raising (it's about awareness-campaign).

Thank you.

Default Situational Ethics...the End justifies the Means???

SPAM (the luncheon canned meat product) is despised by many.
Just the mention of it invokes disparaging remarks.

However, it is easily stored, easily prepared, can be eaten "raw" or cooked, and could save your life in the right circumstances.

The other day I had SPAM for dinner...it was Y2K leftovers...had been stored for over a year! I like it fried in butter-flavored Crisco. I ate several slices. It tasted good. I was hungry. It had been a while since I had had any SPAM to eat. Personally I don't care for it "raw", but I can eat it that way, too, if necessary.

But, to many folks, SPAM is BAAAAD!

Spam (UCE) has become the menace of the internet to many folks.
I get several pieces of Spam each day.
I know how to use the delete button.
Just like I know where the round file is when I sort through the junk mail I get from the post office.

Sometimes I will open Spam; sometimes not.
Sometimes I'm glad I did; sometimes not.

I choose. I reap the rewards, or suffer the consequences.
I am an adult.
I don't need Big Brother to take care of me.

SPAM, or Spam. I can handle either one.

Does a "wrong" become a "right" when the outcome is positive?
Who decides what's positive or negative?

Can something be illegal, but moral?

Can something be legal, but immoral?

I think we all know the answers to these and many other perplexing questions we face on a daily basis. Each of us must decide for ourselves where we stand on matters of the heart and soul.

Simon, if I had to "hurt" you to save your life, what would you have me to do? "Hurt" you, or let you die?

Legal is not always "right".

Illegal is not always "wrong".

Default Thank you, JDB. The joke was illuminating...

Thank you, JDB.

You are absolutely right.

In the right circumstances (in my case - a person in a coma) SPAM (bulk e-mail) is jusified.

Default What should be the main concern is...

the readers! Let me explain....

Gosh, you sure think up some doozies, Simon.... :)

I think the bottom line is that messages should be posted in the "right" place.... There are many places where even a message to help others might seem not to fit...

So I guess what I'm saying is that it depends on the forum.... There could be forums specially for these kinds of messages where it wouldn't be considered "spam" at all, but would fit right in....

In the end, if unsure, a person could always check with the people moderating the forum directly first.... :)

I don't know if that's very clear.... There are sometimes messages which appear here which I consider "borderline".... Sometimes I let them stay, and sometimes I delete them.... What is always first in my mind is the quality of the forum, and whether the message is something which people here would be interested in reading? (I also let the other moderators make their own decisions, I asked them to moderate because I trust their judgement....)

But it ain't always easy, as I'm sure you know from having run your own forum too!

- Dien

P.S. I'm traveling at the moment, which is why I haven't been posting much lately, though I'm still reading (writing takes more time than reading).... I'll be back in full swing again by some time next week.... :)

Default SPAM = UCE. UCE = unsolicited COMMERCIAL email, therefore....

Hi!

Haven't seen you all for ages. Crazy busy. One of my clients was listed as a Forbes Top50 website, another has been written up in his local paper and my actress client is on the way to the Cannes film festival and her agent wants to do a press announcement about her site - and I'm not finished re-doing it....... and I'm still reworking the beta of my workshop. Needless to say, it's been NUTS!!!

Anyway.... in response to the spam question - spam is a term used for UCE. UCE is an abbreciation for "unsolicited COMMERCIAL email"

Some people have also refer to it as UBCE - unsolicted bulk COMMERCIAL email.

A "life or death" letter to help someone isn't spam unless it includes a sales message.

So, other than p*ssing off a few hardhearts, others will either respond or delete.

Just my two cents..

Linda
